Wellington Homeless Women’s Trust is a volunteer run charity dedicated to making a difference within our community by providing support and accommodation to homeless women in central Wellington, NZ.
These women are in vulnerable positions and have nowhere to call home. They come to us needing hands-on support and a safe environment to rebuild their lives. We provide our tenants with up to three months accommodation while they work towards personal independence in a supportive environment.
Homelessness is caused by many overwhelming issues, which is why Wellington Homeless Women's Trust works in collaboration with many social services to provide the necessary support to the women who go through our three month programme. We do everything we can to equip each individual with the skills and opportunity needed to move into long-term housing, while maintaining a positive and sustainable lifestyle.
Become a charity that is fully-funded and self-sustaining throughout all offered help services.
Provide homeless women in Wellington a wider range of support services and accommodation solutions under one roof.
Create more social awareness within our community about homelessness and the hidden issues that contribute.

Admissions by Referral Agency
Since establishing Wellington Homeless Women's Trust (WHWT) in 2013, we have had over 100 homeless women referred to us from a wide range of agencies. Most of these women have been successfully assisted into appropriate health services and sustainable housing solutions.
This figure does not include our current tenants, whom we believe have a very positive future ahead of them. We are working tirelessly to grow services to support as many women as we can.

A local strategy to End Homelessness in Wellington by 2020
As an agency dedicated to housing and supporting the homeless women in our community, Wellington Homeless Women's Trust sits within an overarching regional strategy - Te Mahana. This is a strategy funded and developed by the Wellington City Council in 2004 to end homelessness in our city by 2020.
Te Mahana is a concept that speaks of the warmth found in a supportive home environment. The warmth of a home is not limited to a physical structure, bed or cupboards full of food. It includes how people feel about their living environment – whether they feel safe, included and respected. This is what we strive to instil and provide our women on a daily basis.
As part of this initiative, WHWT works closely with associated agencies and social services within the collaborative framework of Te Mahana. Agencies such as Downtown City Mission (DCM), Work and Income (WINZ) and The Soup Kitchen are the first line of contact for people in emergency housing situations, these agencies refer clients to agencies better suited to assist depending on clients specific needs and issues.
