We are not able take all of the women who get referred onto us, due to limited spaces available. For the women who stay with us we maintain a safe and peaceful environment for women who are committed to making a change in their lives. Their needs are a priority and need protecting, we are unable to take on women who fail to meet the following criteria.
Specifically women who have:
- Dependant children
- Dependant pets
- Previous convictions of arson
- Ongoing alcohol and drug use
- High risk mental health issues
- No access to Income and/or Benefits

Emergency Referral Agencies
WHWT works closely with associated agencies and social services within the collaborative framework of Te Mahana. Agencies such as Downtown City Mission (DCM), Work and Income (WINZ) and The Soup Kitchen are the first line of contact for people in emergency housing situations, these agencies refer clients to agencies better suited to assist depending on clients specific needs and issues.
What they do
These services provide a variety of valuable services from making referrals to shelter, providing food and warm clothing and access to medical care. They have professionals who can discuss what a women’s options are. They also have expertise of the sector and what services can provide and how to make a referral easy.
How they help
These services have the ability to access emergency and transition accommodation depending on availability.
Why Is It Important to Contact Them First
They can assess which service applies to address your individual needs, and refer you onto another service if this is needed.
